Il Museo della Musica” by Artemio Versari
Maybe a student of Giovanni Paolo Maggini, but his work is certainly rougher.
His instruments have good acustic qualities.
In many cases he used double purfling and lengthened c-bouts; the scroll is rougly carved.
His nicely formulated varnish is coloured brown, yellowish and sometimes red.
The sound is dark.
From "
Italian Violin Makers" by Walter Hamma.
Probably a pupil of Giovanni Paolo Maggini, he worked in a similar manner, but rather more coarsely on a somewhat elongated model with a large unattractive f-holes, the lower portions of which are mostly broadly curved.
There is mostly a double purfling, long middle bouts and the scroll is rather deeply chiselled.
The choice of wood is good, but on the whole his work looks raw and unfinished. The varnish is excellent, and of a yellow brown or red colour.
His instruments sound good if rather dark in colour.
The violas are particulary esteemed.
